What is a frequency converter?

A frequency converter is a power control unit used for stepless control of squirrel cage motor speed. Speed control saves energy and protects electricity grids and machinery as well as increases the quality and volume of production.

Vacon frequency converters carry the CE mark and comply with the strictest EMC (radio interference) directives of the EU. The highly sophisticated Open Loop Vector Control, the fast ASIC circuit and the direct 3-phase current measurement guarantee accurate motor control and make the frequency converter suitable for very demanding uses.

Vacon NXL

The Vacon NXL is an extremely slim, space-saving and easy-to-use frequency converter for the power range of 0.25...30 kW. The installation is flexible and easy using the mounting components shipped with the unit. Traditional back installation and side installation, suitable for very limited space, are available, as well as DIN rail mounting.

Vacon NXS/NXP

The Vacon NX builds on our long expertise in designing and manufacturing reliable, robust drives. The robust design of the Vacon NX is synonymous for reliability. We have exercised the same level of care and attention to detail. Like its predecessor - the Vacon CX -, the NX also enjoys the same high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference.

The Vacon NX provides two different control units, the NXS with a standard open loop sensorless vector control software, sufficient for the majority of applications, and the NXP with a high-performance closed loop control software for most demanding applications.

Vacon NXP Liquid Cooled

The new range of Vacon NX drives includes units utilising liquid coolant instead of air. Liquid cooled Vacon frequency converters offer major benefits in cooling efficiency as the heat loss can be dissipated outside the installation area. Another important advantage is a compact design that allows space savings of up to 70 per cent compared with air-cooled drives.

Liquid cooled NX will be available from 7.5 kW up to about 3 MW, rated at 400-500 and 690 V. All drives can be adapted simply and easily to various customer needs in areas such as the marine and offshore industry, pulp and paper mills, chemical plants, and metallurgical applications, and also pumping stations and other civil engineering applications.

Vacon NXdrive

Vacon presents its new line of NXP frequency converters for the higher power range. The high power NXP frequency converters are among the most compact air cooled frequency converters on the market today. The converters are available both in a 380-500 V and in a 525-690 V version.

All high power Vacon NXP frequency converters are optimised for mounting in an enclosure. The Vacon NXdrive free standing enclosure is the standard solution for all high power Vacon drives.

The NXdrive enclosure is compact and well tested, fully utilising the flexibility of the NXP. The NXdrive is designed to meet the most demanding requirements on flexibility, robustness, compactness and service friendliness. It is a safe choice for any application.

Vacon CX

The predecessor to the Vacon NX, the standard Vacon CX/CXL/CXS frequency converters cover the power range of 0.55 kW...1500 kW and are manufactured according to international standards for the global market with traditional expertise based upon years of experience. The average mean time before failure (MTBF) of a frequency converter is more than 500,000 operating hours.
