Case Studies
Outstanding backup service
A major brewery in Derby had a failure on one of their most important chiller packs. The 280kw starter had failed and the company was running on their standby machine. Ralspeed were called in to provide a solution.
"Our engineers - already on a job in Lincoln diverted to the plant on their return journey and assessed the requirements to get the chiller working. The following day a 300kw Torq-master soft starter was retro-fitted into the existing cabinet and the brewery was back on line that evening."

Through our partner we were able to replace a faulty inverter on a vital coal conveyor system with a 110kw Torq-master Soft Starter. Although the customer lost the variable speed characteristics he was still able to resume production within a very short period.
"The Soft Starter in this case was easily retro-fitted in place of the inverter because the two units use the same incoming and outgoing power components - Switchfuses, MCB's, Isolating contactors and of course only three wires to the motor!"
Still using star-delta - its never too late to soft start
A manufacturer of undersea cable in Scotland was having problems running all four of his compressors at the same time. They were originally installed with star-delta starters but the 'open transition' spike was causing not only the high bay lights to fail but with 3 compressors running, starting the fourth caused the main breaker to trip.
"Ralspeed solved the above problems by retro-fitting 4x250kw Torq-master Soft Starters to the compressors and used the existing star-delta system as a by-pass for the Soft Starter. As a result all four compressors could be started and the incidence of lamp failure was reduced to zero."
