RALSPEED BLOWS THE WIND UP AIRKIX!!
Well – we have had a very interesting start to the New Year!

Ralspeed and Airkix – working together to make people fly!
Imagine a wind tunnel that could be used for testing the aerodynamics of an F1 racing car – turn it upright – step into the airflow and you are skydiving!!!
The wind is generated with 4x 200kw fans and by operating them with inverters you can adjust the speed and therefore the amount of lift. Unfortunately one of the inverters malfunctioned and it was going to take several days to repair.
Airkix scoured the internet looking for a replacement and could not find one company that could help until they contacted Ralspeed. Ralspeed hired and commissioned a 200kw IP54 Torq-master soft starter from our ambulance fleet.
Although the soft starter cannot vary the speed, using the other inverters near normal operation continued. We had Airkix flying again that same evening.

DC BRAKING FOR MULTIHEAD WOODWORKING MACHINES
A large timber yard contacted Ralspeed about fitting DC Injection Brake Units to several of their Multi-Head Woodworking Machines. After discussion regarding the application it was decided that individual DC Brake Modules would be better than using one larger unit. There was nothing wrong with the existing starters so all parties agreed retrofitting the DC Brakes would be the best solution in this case.
Ralspeed designed and built an IP54 panel housing all the DC Brakes together. High speed fuses were also used for protection and then wired to terminals. This would make the retrofitting of the units easier on site.

STOCKIST KEEPS AHEAD OF THE GAME
Our stockist in Ireland (Electrical Rewind Services) tries to keep ahead of the game by stocking larger IP54 soft starters. As they have found he has more chance of getting a sale if he keeps the unit on his site. On larger soft starters lead times can vary from 1 to several weeks. This can be OK on projects but breakdowns cannot wait this length of time.
This month ERS opted for a 186kw IP54 soft starter (see picture above) complete with isolator, this unit can also be used on smaller motors by adjusting the full load current in the menu.
